How this calculator works

  1. Running length depends on the configuration: a single screen is the width, a corner is length + width, a three-sided enclosure is (2 × length) + width.
  2. Glass area = running length × height. Seven feet is the standard height; taking it to the ceiling costs more and stops steam escaping.
  3. Cost = area × thickness rate + door. Rates include channels, clamps, a support bar and fitting.
  4. Wet area = shower length × width. Dry area is the rest of the bathroom, reported so you can see the split you are creating.
  5. Waterproofing = wet floor + perimeter × 7 ft, because the shower walls need full-height membrane rather than the 4 ft used in the rest of the bathroom.
  6. Fall = longest dimension × 12 ÷ 60, the 1 in 60 gradient expressed in inches across the shower.

Why the wet-dry split is worth the money

In a 31 sq ft Mumbai bathroom, a 9 sq ft glazed shower converts the other 22 sq ft into a permanently dry zone. That changes four things. The WC seat stays dry. The vanity shutters stop swelling at the bottom edge. Two people can use the bathroom in sequence without the second one standing in water. And the floor outside the shower no longer needs the aggressive anti-skid finish that makes a bathroom floor hard to clean.

The glass itself is not the whole job. The threshold matters as much: either a 10–15 mm step up into the shower, or a flush entry with a linear drain and a properly graded floor. A flush entry looks better and is considerably less forgiving of a badly built fall, which is why we specify it only where we are also doing the screed.

On hardware, the parts that fail are the hinges and the bottom seal, not the glass. Specify SS 316 fittings rather than SS 304 anywhere within a few kilometres of the sea in Mumbai, because 304 pits and stains within two or three monsoons in salt air. The price difference on a shower enclosure is about ₹2,500 and it is the difference between hardware that still looks new in year five and hardware that looks tired in year two.

Glass, channels, clamps and the door are the glazier’s prices and we have left them where they are. The figure of ours this page can be checked against is the shower cubicle itself: ₹41,000 to ₹62,000 in 12 mm toughened glass, billed as a single item on homes Greenbox has completed and restated at October 2026. The default 3 × 3 ft corner lands at about ₹41,000, which is where it should. Treat the output as a planning figure: accurate enough to brief a landlord, a bank or a family, and not accurate enough to sign a contract against.

What this tool does not cover

  • The shower tray or the graded screed, which is civil work and must be done before the glass is measured.
  • Waterproofing itself — see the waterproofing area calculator.
  • Tiling inside the shower, the niche and the drain — tiling quantities are in the tiles quantity calculator.
  • Mixer, rain head, hand shower and diverter, which are sanitaryware rather than partition.
  • Steam enclosures, which need a sealed ceiling, a different glass specification and a generator.
  • Glass must be measured on site after tiling. A quotation against a drawing is an estimate; the cutting list comes from the finished opening.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a glass shower partition cost in Mumbai?+

₹620 per sq ft for 8 mm toughened, ₹780 for 10 mm and ₹950 for 12 mm frameless, supplied and fitted with channels and clamps. A 3 × 3 ft corner at 7 ft high in 10 mm with a pivot door comes to about ₹41,000 before GST.

What thickness should shower glass be?+

Eight millimetres for a fixed screen up to about 3 ft wide, 10 mm for anything wider or with a door, and 12 mm for a frameless enclosure with patch fittings. All of it must be toughened and stamped — if there is no stamp in a corner of the pane, it has not been toughened.

How much fall does a shower floor need?+

About 1 in 60 to the drain, which across a 3 ft shower is roughly 0.6 inches. It has to be built into the screed before tiling. A flat shower floor with the trap in one corner holds water in the middle permanently.

Should a shower have a step or a flush entry?+

A 10–15 mm step is more forgiving and cheaper. A flush entry with a linear drain looks better and demands a properly graded floor, so it is worth doing only when you are also laying the screed. Either way, the glass should sit on the dry side of the threshold, not on it.

Do I need SS 316 fittings for a shower?+

Within a few kilometres of the sea in Mumbai, yes. SS 304 pits and stains in salt air within two or three monsoons. The upgrade to 316 on a shower enclosure is about ₹2,500 and it is the difference between hardware that still looks new in year five and hardware that looks tired in year two.
