What residential interior design covers
A home is not a set of rooms decorated one at a time. It is a single system — circulation, storage, light, services and finishes — and the value of a residential design service is that someone resolves all of it before a single carpenter arrives on site.
Our residential scope is deliberately broad, because the gaps between trades are where projects fail:
- Space planning & layout — circulation, furniture fit, storage volumes, door swings, and the small dimensional calls that decide whether a home feels generous or cramped.
- Bespoke joinery — wardrobes, TV units, crockery units, study tables, shoe racks and lofts, made to your ceiling heights rather than to catalogue sizes.
- Modular kitchen — layout, appliance planning, hardware selection and countertop detailing.
- False ceiling & lighting — ceiling design coordinated with AC, sprinklers and a layered lighting plan.
- Electrical & plumbing coordination — point planning done before tiling, not after.
- Finishes — flooring, wall treatments, paint, wallpaper, veneer and laminate specification.
- 3D visualisation — photoreal views so you approve the space before it is built.
- Execution & handover — site management, quality checks, snagging and a styled handover.
What it costs
Residential interiors in India are priced per square foot of carpet area, and the band is wide because 'interiors' can mean anything from painting and a kitchen to a fully rebuilt home. Here is how the finish levels actually break down:
| Finish level | ₹ per sq ft | What you get | Typical 1,000 sq ft home |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | ₹1,200 – ₹1,600 | Laminate joinery, basic false ceiling, standard hardware, painting | ₹12 – 16 L |
| Premium | ₹1,700 – ₹2,400 | Acrylic/veneer finishes, branded hardware, designed lighting, better flooring | ₹17 – 24 L |
| Luxury | ₹2,500 – ₹3,500+ | PU/veneer, imported hardware, stone, custom furniture, automation | ₹25 – 35 L+ |
Indicative, excluding 18% GST. Civil work, if any, is additional. Mumbai-specific pricing is on our Mumbai cost page.
If you want a number for your own home rather than a band, our interior design cost calculator gives a room-wise estimate in about a minute.

Design and build under one accountable roof
How we work
- Consultation & site visitWe walk the space, measure, and understand how you actually live — who cooks, who works from home, how much you store. No design happens before this.
- Concept & 3DLayouts, material palettes and photoreal 3D views. You see the home before committing, and changes here cost nothing.
- BOQ & contractA line-item bill of quantities with rates, a fixed timeline and a payment schedule tied to milestones.
- ExecutionCivil, carpentry, MEP, false ceiling and finishes, managed by our site team with weekly photo updates.
- Snag & handoverWe snag the home ourselves, fix it, then hand over styled and cleaned — with your warranty documents.
Why design and build together matters
The most common way an Indian home project goes wrong is the handoff: a designer produces beautiful drawings, a contractor prices them, and the two disagree for the next four months while you arbitrate. Every variation becomes a negotiation, and the person with the least information — you — carries the risk.
A drawing that cannot be built at the quoted price is not a design. It is a wish.
Greenbox site principle
Because we execute what we draw, the BOQ is written by the people who will build it. That removes the single biggest source of cost creep on residential projects, and it is why we can offer a completion date in writing.
Where we work
We are based in Mumbai and deliver residential projects across the city and the wider MMR. For Mumbai-specific pricing, local project references and society-approval guidance, see residential interior designers in Mumbai.

Frequently asked questions
What is included in residential interior design services?+
Space planning, joinery and storage design, modular kitchen, false ceiling, lighting and electrical planning, finishes specification, 3D visualisation, and — with a design-and-build studio — full execution and handover. Civil work such as wall changes or plumbing shifts is usually quoted separately.
How much does residential interior design cost per sq ft?+
In India, expect roughly ₹1,200–₹1,600 per sq ft for an essential finish, ₹1,700–₹2,400 for premium, and ₹2,500–₹3,500+ for luxury, excluding GST. A 1,000 sq ft home therefore typically lands between ₹12 lakh and ₹35 lakh depending on specification.
How long does a home interior project take?+
A 2BHK usually takes 10–12 weeks and a 3BHK 12–16 weeks from design sign-off, assuming no major civil work. Add 2–4 weeks if walls, plumbing or flooring are being changed, and factor in society working-hour restrictions.
Do I need an interior designer or just a contractor?+
A contractor builds what they are told; a designer decides what should be built. If your layout, storage and lighting are already resolved, a contractor may suffice. If they are not — which is usually the case — design pays for itself by preventing rework.
Is GST charged on interior work?+
Yes. Interior design and execution attract GST, typically 18% on the service component. Any quote you compare should state clearly whether it is inclusive or exclusive of GST, because an 18% difference is easy to mistake for a cheaper bid.
