Categories seen on Indian projects
| Category | What it includes | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|
| Sanitaryware | Wall-hung and floor WCs, basins, urinals | Rough-in dimensions fixed before wall build |
| Faucets | Basin, sink, bath and sensor mixers | Deck thickness and hole size must match |
| Shower systems | Overheads, hand showers, body sprays, valves | Pressure and flow must be verified |
| Concealed valves and cisterns | In-wall frames, valve bodies, flush plates | Access and service route required |
| Bath furniture and mirrors | Vanities, cabinets, lit mirrors | Electrical provision behind the mirror |
| Bathtubs and wellness | Freestanding and built-in tubs | Structural load and waste routing |
| Kitchen sinks and taps | Undermount sinks, pull-out taps | Counter cut-out coordination |
Price bands observed in Mumbai
| Item | Band we observe | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Single-lever basin mixer | ₹12,000 – 55,000 | Typically 2–4× a mainstream mid-tier equivalent |
| Concealed shower valve with trim | ₹22,000 – 95,000 | Valve body and trim often priced separately |
| Wall-hung WC | ₹28,000 – 1,10,000 | Depends heavily on the series |
| In-wall carrier and flush plate | ₹28,000 – 70,000 | Frame is a structural item, not an accessory |
| Overhead rain shower | ₹18,000 – 90,000 | Check the minimum pressure requirement |
| Undermount kitchen sink | ₹22,000 – 80,000 | Gauge and bowl configuration drive the price |
These are buying observations, not official pricing. A premium single-bathroom package commonly totals ₹2.5–6 lakh in fittings and sanitaryware.
Installation: precision products need precise plumbing
Premium bathroom products have tighter tolerances than the Indian plumbing trade is always set up for. That is manageable, but only if it is planned.
- Set out the rough-in from the manufacturer’s drawing, not from a plumber’s memory. Wall-hung WC carriers, concealed valves and wall-mounted basin mixers all have exact centre lines and depths.
- Control the finished wall depth. A concealed valve set 12 mm too deep leaves the trim standing off the tile; set too shallow, the trim will not seat. The tile thickness and adhesive bed must be known before the valve is fixed.
- Pressure test before tiling. Every concealed line, pressure tested and held, with photographs, before a single tile goes on.
- Protect during the fit-out. Premium fittings installed before the tiling and painting are finished will be scratched. Install them last, and keep the packaging.
- Leave the access. Every concealed cistern and valve needs a service route. On a premium bathroom this is usually the flush plate or a discreet removable panel, and it must be designed, not improvised.
Spares, service and the fifteen-year question
- A bathroom is a fifteen- to twenty-year installation and cartridges, seals and flush mechanisms are consumables. Before buying, ask what the spares route is in India for your specific product family.
- Keep the model numbers, the finish code and the purchase invoice in the handover file. Without them, ordering a cartridge in year eight is guesswork.
- Finishes other than chrome — brushed, matt black, gold tones — look superb and are harder to match years later if one item needs replacing. Buy a spare of any small item in an unusual finish.
- Near the sea, rinse and dry special finishes. Salt and hard water are harder on a brushed or coloured finish than on chrome.
- Any manufacturer warranty is offered on the manufacturer’s own terms and is separate from our installation warranty. Read both before assuming coverage.
Our independence
Greenbox is an independent design and build studio. We hold no dealership, distributorship or channel relationship with Kohler or with any other bathroom manufacturer, and no brand influences our specification. We buy through Mumbai suppliers on the open market and pass through invoices where we procure for a client. Nothing on this page is an official price or an official warranty statement.

Frequently asked questions
Is Kohler worth the premium over Indian brands?+
On the items you use daily and cannot easily change — the WC, the main mixer, the concealed valve — many clients think so, and the build quality supports it. On accessories and secondary bathrooms it is money that could go elsewhere. A mixed specification is usually the efficient answer.
Are spares available in India?+
Generally yes for current product families, but availability varies by series and changes over time, so ask the specific question for the specific products before buying rather than assuming. Keep model numbers and invoices in the handover file so an enquiry in year eight is straightforward.
Is Greenbox an authorised Kohler dealer?+
No. We are an independent studio with no dealership or channel relationship with Kohler or any other brand. We specify on merit and buy on the open market, passing through supplier invoices where we procure.
What goes wrong most often with premium fittings in India?+
Installation, not product. Concealed valves set at the wrong depth for the finished tile line, rough-in centres taken from memory, and fittings installed before the wet trades are finished and then scratched. All three are avoidable with a properly sequenced programme.
Should I choose a matt black or brushed finish?+
They look excellent and they are less forgiving. Hard water spots show more, salt air is harder on them and matching a single replacement item years later is more difficult. If you want one, buy a spare of any small component at the same time.
