What the range covers
| Family | What it does | Where it belongs |
|---|---|---|
| Concealed hinges | Cabinet door hinges with integrated or clip-on damping | Every cabinet door |
| Lift systems | Gas or mechanically assisted stays for wall unit fronts | Kitchen wall units, flap-up cabinets |
| Drawer runners | Concealed undermount runners with soft close | Kitchen and furniture drawers |
| Drawer box systems | Complete metal-sided drawer systems, load rated | Kitchen base units, pan drawers |
| Internal organisation | Dividers and organisers sized to the drawer systems | Cutlery and utensil drawers |
| Electric opening support | Push-to-open and motorised opening for handle-less fronts | Handle-less kitchens |
What is not in that list is as informative as what is. No locks, no door hardware, no appliances, no sanitary fittings. A Blum specification covers motion hardware only, and the rest of the project needs other suppliers.
Price bands observed in Mumbai
| Item | Typical open-market range we see | Comparison point |
|---|---|---|
| Concealed soft-close hinge | ₹380 – 900 per piece | Roughly 1.5–3× a mainstream mid-tier hinge |
| Undermount runner pair, full extension | ₹1,600 – 4,200 | Premium band of the Indian market |
| Metal drawer box system, per drawer | ₹4,500 – 12,000 | Depends on side height, width and load rating |
| Wall unit lift system | ₹4,000 – 14,000 per unit | Priced by shutter weight and height |
| Push-to-open mechanical | ₹900 – 2,600 per unit | For handle-less fronts |
| Drawer interior organisers | ₹2,500 – 9,000 per drawer | Optional; often deferred |
Ranges reflect what we pay through dealers, not a published price list. Kitchen size and tier selection move them substantially.
Where the premium is defensible, and where it is not
- Defensible: kitchen base drawers. A pan drawer in a Mumbai family kitchen is opened perhaps five thousand times a year with real weight in it. This is where mechanism quality is felt daily and where failure is most annoying.
- Defensible: handle-less kitchens. Push-to-open and motorised systems have to work reliably or the whole design language fails. Under-specifying here is how a handle-less kitchen becomes a kitchen you push twice.
- Defensible: wall unit lift systems. A poorly specified gas stay drops a heavy shutter on someone’s head within two years.
- Not defensible: wardrobe internals. Drawers inside a wardrobe are opened a fraction as often and carry a fraction of the load. Mid-tier fittings are indistinguishable in use.
- Not defensible: rental and short-horizon fit-outs. If the joinery will be replaced in six years, spend the money on the carcass instead.
Budget strategy we actually use
On most Mumbai kitchens we do not specify one brand throughout. A mixed schedule buys better performance for the same money.
- Premium drawer systems in the kitchen base run, where the hands go.
- Mainstream mid-tier hinges on everything, because a good soft-close hinge from any established brand is a solved problem.
- Value fittings on wardrobe internals, loft shutters and utility units.
- The saving from that mix on a 12 ft kitchen with three wardrobes is typically ₹35,000–70,000, with no perceptible difference in daily use.
- Where a client wants a single brand throughout for simplicity, we price it that way and show the delta.
Our independence, stated plainly
Greenbox is not an authorised dealer, distributor or partner of Blum, and we hold no brand exclusivity. Fittings are specified on merit and bought through Mumbai dealers at market rates; where we procure on a client’s behalf, the supplier invoice is passed through so the tier and the price are visible. Any product warranty is the manufacturer’s, on the manufacturer’s terms.

Frequently asked questions
Is Blum worth the extra cost?+
On kitchen base drawers and lift systems, in a home that will keep the kitchen for a decade, usually yes. On wardrobe internals and low-use cabinets, no — the difference is not perceptible in daily use. A mixed schedule usually gives the best result per rupee.
Does Blum make complete kitchens?+
No. It makes motion hardware — hinges, runners, drawer systems and lift systems. The carcass, shutters, counter and appliances all come from elsewhere. A quotation that says the kitchen “is Blum” is describing the fittings only.
Is Greenbox a Blum dealer?+
No. We are an independent design and build studio with no dealership or distribution arrangement with Blum or any other manufacturer. We specify on merit and buy through the open market.
Can premium and mainstream fittings be mixed in one kitchen?+
Yes, and we do it routinely. Different hinges on different cabinets are invisible to the user; what matters is that each cabinet has the right fitting for its load and frequency of use. Mixing is a cost strategy, not a compromise, provided the schedule is deliberate.
How long should good kitchen hardware last?+
A well-specified soft-close drawer system in a Mumbai kitchen should run for twelve to fifteen years without attention. Dampers are the first thing to soften, and on established brands they are replaceable parts rather than a reason to rebuild the drawer.
