Calculating what you need
Measure the wall area, divide by 50 sq ft rather than 56 to allow for the pattern repeat and cut waste, and round up. A 12 ft × 9 ft wall is 108 sq ft, so three rolls — never two and a bit. Order all rolls from one batch number: different batches of the same design print at slightly different colour, and on a single wall the join is visible. Keep one spare roll; the design will be discontinued long before you need it.

The humidity question, answered honestly
Wallpaper fails in Mumbai for one reason: it is pasted onto a wall that carries moisture. An external wall, a wall shared with a bathroom, or a wall below a terrace will lift the paper at the edges within two monsoons, and no adhesive prevents it. On a sound internal wall, properly primed, good wallpaper lasts eight to twelve years. The test is the wall, not the paper — check it with a moisture meter before ordering, and if there is any doubt, texture paint or panelling is the safer choice.
Preparation
- One coat of putty and a sealing primer; wallpaper telegraphs an uneven wall.
- Never paper over a damp patch, a crack, or old wallpaper.
- Switch and socket plates come off before papering, not cut around.
- Allow 24 hours of acclimatisation for the rolls in the room before hanging.
