Build a placement plan
Entrance direction and home type. The plan covers every room at once.
How this tool works
- Each home type carries a room list — six rooms for a 1BHK up to thirteen for a villa. That list is fixed, so the same home type always returns the same set.
- Each room carries a preferred direction, an acceptable fallback and one practical note about what actually governs it in a real plan.
- The entrance direction adds one note describing how that entrance is treated in the tradition and what the customary response is where it is treated as less favourable.
- The flat type adds one more note about how much placement freedom you genuinely have.
- Nothing is randomised, personalised or predictive. The full dataset is published in the table below and the tool simply reads it back for your combination.
| Room | Traditionally preferred | Acceptable | What usually decides it in practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | North, north-east, east | East or north-west | Whether guests cross the bedroom corridor |
| Dining | West, north-west | East | Adjacency to the kitchen |
| Kitchen | South-east | North-west, east | The gas riser and the utility balcony |
| Master bedroom | South-west | South, west | Distance from the entrance |
| Second bedroom | West, north-west | North | Where the study wall can go |
| Study | North-east, east, north | West | Avoiding a window behind the screen |
| Pooja space | North-east | North or east niche | Not sharing a wall with a bathroom |
| Bathrooms | North-west, west | South, south-east | The building's wet stack |
| Utility | North-west | West | Drain, water point and a window |
| Staircase | South-west, south, west | North-west | Structure and the plan's better-lit side |
| Store | South-west, west | South | The corner nothing else wants |

Design and build under one accountable roof
Worked example — a 2BHK with a north-east entrance
The tool opens on the most commonly asked-about combination. It returns eight rooms: living to the north or north-east, dining to the west or north-west, kitchen south-east, master bedroom south-west, second bedroom west or north-west, pooja north-east, bathrooms north-west, utility north-west. The entrance note records that a north-east entrance is the most favoured in traditional guidance and that it conveniently places the pooja corner beside the door. The flat-type note, for a corner flat, points out that two external faces give genuine freedom on the bedrooms.
What it does not do is tell you that this is achievable. In a typical Mumbai 2BHK the kitchen and both bathrooms are already built where the risers are, and the developer's plan did not consult a Vaastu consultant. Roughly three of the eight placements are usually free to change, and those three are where the effort is worth spending.
How we handle this on live projects
A meaningful share of our residential clients bring a Vaastu note to the first meeting, and a larger share bring a family member with strong views. We treat the note as one design input alongside the daylight study, the plumbing drawing and the structural plan, and we resolve conflicts in that order. Where a recommendation is free — which way the hob faces, which wall the bed headboard sits on, where the pooja niche goes, which corner takes the heavy storage — we simply follow it and nobody has to argue.
Where it would require moving a drain stack, blocking the only cross-ventilation path or cutting a shear wall, we set out the options in writing with the reason, and the client decides. In more than a decade we have not had a client insist once they have seen it written down that way. What causes trouble is a contractor agreeing to something on site without saying what it costs or whether the building allows it.
One caution about consultants. A practising Vaastu consultant will and should override anything on this page, because a real consultation looks at plot shape, proportion, the Brahmasthan, slope and entry sequence — none of which are modelled here. What we would question is any recommendation that requires structural change. Get a licensed structural engineer's view before agreeing to cut anything, whoever proposed it.
Every constant on this page comes from Greenbox site records — measured drawings, signed BOQs and completion certificates from projects delivered between 2023 and 2026 — rounded to the figures an estimator would actually write down. We publish them so the arithmetic can be audited rather than trusted. Treat the output as a planning figure: accurate enough to brief a landlord, a bank or a family, and not accurate enough to sign a contract against.
What this tool does not cover
- It makes no prediction. Nothing here asserts that a room's direction affects health, wealth or any other outcome.
- It is one widely published tradition, not a scholarly text. Schools of Vaastu differ, and a practising consultant should override it.
- It does not read your floor plan. Proportion, plot shape, the Brahmasthan and entry sequence are all part of a real consultation and none of them are here.
- It is not astrology. No birth details are asked for and none would change the output.
- It does not override structure, plumbing or building regulation. Where they conflict, the building wins.
- No data is collected — the whole tool runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
Which direction should each room face as per Vaastu?+
Kitchen south-east, master bedroom south-west, pooja space north-east, living room north or east, bathrooms north-west, staircase south-west and store south-west. This tool returns the whole set for your home type together with the practical fallback for each.
How is this different from a Vaastu direction checker?+
A checker answers one question — is this room, in this direction, favourable. This tool builds the whole-home plan at once from your entrance direction and home type, and adds what actually decides each room's position in a real apartment. Use the checker for a single room you are unsure about.
What if my flat does not follow Vaastu at all?+
Most Mumbai flats do not, because the kitchen and bathrooms are fixed by the building's risers before anyone moves in. Concentrate on what is free: hob orientation, bed position, desk direction, where the pooja niche goes and which corner takes the heavy storage. Those five cost nothing and cover most of what a consultant will ask for.
Does a south or south-west entrance need a remedy?+
Traditional texts treat them as less favourable and the customary responses are practical ones — a well-lit, uncluttered foyer, a clear threshold, a solid well-finished door and no storage blocking the entry. None of that requires structural change, and we would be cautious about any recommendation that did.
Do you charge extra to design to Vaastu?+
No. We treat a Vaastu note as one more design input alongside daylight, ventilation, plumbing and structure. Where they agree, nobody has to discuss it; where they conflict, we set out the options in writing with the cost and the client decides.
