What is on each sheet

Both plans and their schedules follow. SL-1 is the compact unisex salon; SL-2 is the full-service format with spa treatment rooms, a pedicure bank and a dispensary.

How to use the plans

  1. Fix the wash area first. It is the only part of a salon with hard plumbing requirements, and everything else can move around it far more easily than it can move.
  2. Check the mirror orientation against the windows. A mirror facing a window blinds the stylist all afternoon; mirrors facing each other make a small room feel twice the size.
  3. Put the colour bar in the middle. On SL-2 it sits central to both station runs, which is worth more than the floor area it occupies.
  4. Confirm the hot-water load. Four wash points running together need considerably more than a domestic geyser, and discovering that after opening is expensive.

Three mistakes in salon planning

  • Stations at 5 ft. It looks like one more chair on the drawing and feels like a crowded room to every client in it.
  • Pedicure stations without a floor drain. A basin alone means staff carrying water across the floor all day, which is a slip hazard and a daily irritation.
  • Treatment rooms sharing a return duct with the salon. The chemical smell from colouring reaches the massage room, and that is the one thing a spa client will not forgive.

Frequently asked questions

How many stations fit in 600 sq ft?+

Five to six with a wash area, a treatment room and reception. SL-1 achieves six in 650 sq ft by running two station walls facing each other. Pushing to eight is possible only by dropping the treatment room or taking the pitch below 5 ft, and both cost more than they earn.

What lighting works in a salon?+

Vertical light at the mirror from both sides at 4000K and CRI above 90, never a downlight above the head. Overhead light casts shadows onto the face and makes colour matching unreliable, which is the one technical judgement a salon cannot afford to get wrong.

How much hot water does a salon need?+

Plan on 12 to 15 litres per wash, and size for two wash points running simultaneously at minimum. For four wash points a single 25-litre storage geyser will not hold up through a Saturday; most salons end up on a larger storage system or an instantaneous unit per point.

Do treatment rooms need separate ventilation?+

Yes. A treatment room sharing air with the colouring floor smells of ammonia, and the client is lying still in it for an hour. Each room needs its own supply and exhaust, and the exhaust needs somewhere to go that is not the corridor.

What does a salon fit-out cost in Mumbai?+

₹1,800 to ₹4,500 per sq ft, ex-GST, excluding chairs and equipment. The wash area, the plumbing and the drainage are what push a salon above a comparable retail fit-out, particularly in an older building where the drainage route is not obvious.
