Room by room
| Space | Preferred direction | What you can control in a flat |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | South-east | Hob position within the kitchen; cook facing east where possible |
| Master bedroom | South-west | Bed position; head to south or east; heavy wardrobe on south/west wall |
| Pooja room / mandir | North-east | Unit placement; keep the north-east corner light and uncluttered |
| Children's bedroom | West or north-west | Study table facing east or north |
| Living room | North or east | Seating orientation; heavier furniture to south and west |
| Bathroom | North-west or west | Rarely movable; keep well ventilated and dry |
| Main entrance | North or east | Fixed — mitigate with lighting and a clear, uncluttered foyer |
What is realistically adjustable
- Bed orientation — almost always possible, and the change clients care about most.
- Heavy storage placement — wardrobes and tall units to the south and west walls.
- Pooja unit position — a north-east placement is usually achievable somewhere.
- Study and desk orientation — facing east or north.
- Keeping the north-east open — lighter colours, less mass, good light.
- Mirror placement — on north or east walls; avoid facing the bed.

Design and build under one accountable roof
Where we advise a pragmatic view
A flat's kitchen and bathroom positions are fixed by the building's plumbing stacks. Relocating them is expensive, frequently prohibited by the society, and occasionally structurally unwise. Where a client's Vaastu preference conflicts with a fixed service position, we say so plainly and focus effort on the elements that genuinely can be changed.
We will orient your bed, place your storage and position the mandir. We will not move a plumbing stack that four floors depend on.

Frequently asked questions
Can Vaastu be followed in an apartment?+
Partially. Kitchen and bathroom positions are fixed by the building's plumbing stacks and cannot practically be moved. What can be optimised is placement within rooms: bed orientation, heavy storage on south and west walls, pooja unit in the north-east, and keeping the north-east corner light.
Which direction should the bed face as per Vaastu?+
The head of the bed is generally placed toward the south or east, with the master bedroom itself preferably in the south-west. In a fixed apartment this is one of the most achievable adjustments, which is why it is usually the first one we make.
Where should the pooja room be?+
The north-east is the traditional preference, kept light and uncluttered. In a flat this usually means a mandir unit placed in the north-east corner of the living room or a dedicated niche, rather than a separate room.
