Estimate your 1BHK interior
Set the kitchen and wardrobe run lengths you need. The estimate updates as you type.
How this calculator works
The arithmetic is published so you can check it against any quotation you are given. There is no hidden fudge factor:
- Kitchen = running feet × ₹11,700. The running-foot rate covers base and wall carcass, shutters, standard soft-close hinges and a granite counter at base spec.
- Wardrobe = running feet × ₹11,900. Measured on the front elevation at a 7 ft height — so ₹1,700 per sq ft of shutter, which is what our line items are actually billed on.
- Living joinery is a lump sum — ₹38,000 for a TV unit alone, ₹95,000 for a TV unit with crockery storage and a seating or shoe unit.
- Finish multiplier applies to those three joinery lines only: Essential ×1.0, Premium ×1.45, Luxury ×2.15. A shutter finish does not change what a ceiling or a wire costs.
- False ceiling = carpet area × ₹180 for a peripheral cove or × ₹354 for a designed, multi-level ceiling. The rate is applied to carpet area, not ceiling area, because only part of the ceiling is dropped.
- Painting = carpet area × 2.6 × rate. The 2.6 factor converts carpet area to paintable wall area in a compact flat. Repaint ₹42/sq ft of wall, putty plus repaint ₹52/sq ft.
- Electrical = carpet area × ₹230 for a points refresh, × ₹463 for a full rewire with new circuits, DB and earthing.
- Doors, frames, fittings and hardware = carpet area × ₹420 / ₹580 / ₹990 at Essential, Premium and Luxury. These are in every job and are the line most often left out of a cheap quote.
- Design and project management is 7% of everything above.
- City factor then applies to the whole total: Mumbai and MMR ×1.12, Delhi NCR and Bengaluru ×1.08, rest of India ×1.0.
- Range is shown at −9% to +13% around the computed base.
| Line item | Basis | Essential rate | What the rate includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modular kitchen | per running ft | ₹11,700 | HDHMR carcass, laminate shutters, soft-close hinges, granite top |
| Bedroom wardrobe | per running ft | ₹11,900 | Carcass, shutters, one rod, three shelves, plinth — ₹1,700 per sq ft of shutter at 7 ft |
| TV unit only | lump sum | ₹38,000 | Wall-mounted unit with a drawer bank and back panelling |
| Full living package | lump sum | ₹95,000 | TV unit, crockery or bar unit, seating or shoe storage |
| Peripheral cove ceiling | per sq ft carpet | ₹180 | GI frame, gypsum board, one coat of putty, cove drops |
| Designed ceiling | per sq ft carpet | ₹354 | Multi-level drops, profile-light channels, cornice |
| Repaint | per sq ft wall | ₹42 | Two coats of royal emulsion over sound existing paint |
| Putty plus repaint | per sq ft wall | ₹52 | Punning or putty, primer, two coats of emulsion |
| Points refresh | per sq ft carpet | ₹230 | New points and switch plates on existing conduiting |
| Full rewire | per sq ft carpet | ₹463 | New concealed conduiting, DB, all points, earthing, fan and light circuits |
| Doors, frames, fittings & hardware | per sq ft carpet | ₹420 | Internal doors and frames, drawer hardware, handles and sundries. ₹580 Premium, ₹990 Luxury |
| Design & project management | % of the above | 7% | Drawings, selections, site supervision and the final account |
Multiply the three joinery lines by the finish factor (×1.45 Premium, ×2.15 Luxury). Everything else is finish-independent. The city factor applies to the lot.

Design and build under one accountable roof
Worked example: a 450 sq ft Mumbai 1BHK
These are the calculator defaults, computed step by step so the arithmetic is checkable:
- Kitchen: 9 running ft × ₹11,700 × 1.45 (Premium) = ₹1,52,685
- Wardrobe: 8 running ft × ₹11,900 × 1.45 = ₹1,38,040
- Living joinery, full package: ₹95,000 × 1.45 = ₹1,37,750
- Peripheral ceiling: 450 sq ft × ₹180 = ₹81,000
- Painting: 450 × 2.6 = 1,170 sq ft of wall × ₹52 = ₹60,840
- Electrical points refresh: 450 sq ft × ₹230 = ₹1,03,500
- Doors, frames, fittings and hardware: 450 × ₹580 = ₹2,61,000
- Subtotal = ₹9,34,815; design and project management at 7% = ₹65,437, giving ₹10,00,252
- × 1.12 (Mumbai) = base total ₹11,20,282, shown as a range of ₹10.19 L – ₹12.66 L, or about ₹2,490 per sq ft of carpet area at this scope.
What actually moves a 1BHK number
- Kitchen length. Going from a 7 ft straight run to a 12 ft U adds ₹58,500 at Essential level and ₹1,25,775 at Luxury, before the city factor. It is the single largest lever on the page.
- Shutter finish. Laminate to acrylic roughly doubles the joinery line. In a 1BHK the visible shutter area is small, so a mixed approach — acrylic in the kitchen, laminate in the wardrobe — buys most of the look for far less.
- Ceiling ambition. Mumbai slab heights are commonly 9 ft 6 in to 10 ft. A designed ceiling eats 9–11 inches and costs almost double a peripheral cove. In a compact flat the cove usually reads better.
- Whether you rewire. In a flat over twenty years old, budget the full rewire. Aluminium wiring, two-pin points and a fuse-type DB are the three things we find most often, and none of them are worth building new joinery over.
- Loft work. Not in the calculator because it is highly flat-specific, but a full-width loft above the wardrobe adds ₹1,550–₹2,350 per sq ft of loft face in laminate, and ₹2,600–₹3,900 in a luxury finish.
What this estimate excludes
- 18% GST — shown separately in the breakdown
- Appliances: chimney, hob, oven, washing machine, refrigerator
- Loose furniture, mattresses, curtains and soft furnishings
- Flooring replacement, waterproofing and bathroom civil work
- Society infrastructure deposits, debris charges and service-lift bookings
- Structural changes or any work needing municipal approval
Each rate above is taken from a Greenbox job that has been built, invoiced and closed out — the running-foot figures off the joinery schedules, the per-sq-ft figures off the final accounts, all held at October 2026. It is still an indicative estimate, not a quotation: the real figure depends on your drawings, your site condition and the brands you finally specify.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a 1BHK interior cost in Mumbai?+
On a full scope in Mumbai, roughly ₹8.5–11 lakh for essential laminate work, ₹12–17 lakh for a premium membrane or veneer specification, and ₹20–25 lakh for acrylic or PU with imported hardware — that is ₹1,880–2,450, ₹2,710–3,730 and ₹4,390–5,530 per sq ft on a 450 sq ft flat. All figures exclude 18% GST and appliances.
Why does this calculator use running feet instead of per sq ft?+
For the joinery, because a 1BHK has too little floor area for a per-sq-ft rate to behave — two 450 sq ft flats can differ by ₹2 lakh purely on kitchen length, and running feet is what actually gets fabricated. Ceiling, painting, electrical, doors and fittings are priced per sq ft, because those do track floor area. The total is then cross-checked against the ₹2,420–₹3,330 per sq ft premium band from our completed 1BHK work.
Is a 1BHK cheaper per sq ft than a 2BHK?+
No — but the gap against a 2BHK is small. On our completed work the two bands sit almost on top of each other at premium finish, ₹2,420–₹3,330 for a 1BHK against ₹2,420–₹3,300 for a 2BHK. The real difference shows against a 3BHK, which runs 5–8% lower per sq ft, because site setup, design, the electrical DB and the kitchen do not shrink with the flat.
Can I do a 1BHK in phases?+
Yes, and the sensible order is kitchen, then wardrobe, then living joinery. Do all electrical and ceiling work in the first phase though — retro-fitting points above a finished ceiling means opening it again, and that costs more than doing it once.
Does the estimate include the false ceiling lighting?+
The ceiling rate covers the framing, boarding and putty, plus profile-light channels in the designed option. The electrical line covers points, circuits and wiring. The fittings themselves — downlights, profile strips, drivers, fans — are not in either rate and are quoted separately once you have chosen them.
