How to close the rows
- Take the sheet to the market rather than approving from photographs. Laminate and stone both read differently under showroom light.
- Write the code on the offcut the day you approve it and keep the offcut in a box until handover.
- Record the batch number for tile and stone. Two batches of one code will not match, and that is the vendor's normal behaviour, not a defect.
- Sign and date the row. An approved sample with a date closes an argument that an email chain will not.
Three arguments it avoids
- “This is the laminate you chose.” With a code on the sheet and an offcut in a box, that conversation lasts ten seconds.
- “Branded hardware” delivered as the cheapest thing available. The row demands a series and a load rating.
- Two visibly different tile batches in one room. The batch column catches it at order stage, not at laying stage.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the plywood grade matter so much?+
Because it decides whether the carcass survives Mumbai. IS 710 BWP ply is boiling-water proof and belongs in the sink bay, the hob bay, bathroom vanities and anywhere a utility door opens. IS 303 MR ply is fine everywhere else and costs roughly 30 per cent less. A quotation that says only 'plywood' has told you nothing.
Is 1 mm laminate worth it over 0.8 mm?+
On any exposed surface, yes. The extra thickness resists edge chipping and telegraphing of the substrate. Use 0.8 mm inside carcasses where it is never touched. The price difference across a whole flat is usually under Rs 20,000.
What edge banding thickness should I insist on?+
2 mm on every exposed edge and 0.8 mm internally. Two millimetre banding survives a vacuum cleaner and a decade of hands; 0.8 mm on an exposed edge lifts within two or three years, especially near a wet area.
How do I check a hardware brand claim?+
Ask for the series name and the load rating in kilograms, then look it up. Genuine Hettich, Hafele and Blum products carry printed series identification on the component. A drawer channel with no marking and a claimed 'imported' origin is a channel with no warranty.
Should I buy materials myself?+
Sometimes, for high-value visible items like stone or a specific tile, where you want to pick the slab or the batch. For everything else, contractor supply is usually cheaper and carries the warranty. If you free-issue material, record it on a signed material receipt note the day it lands on site.
