The quotation, section by section
Below is the full worked quotation. Room-wise is easier for a client to check; trade-wise is easier for a contractor to price. A good project ends up with both.

How to use the format
- Write the specification into the description. “Sliding wardrobe” is a category; “8 ft x 8 ft sliding, MR carcass, one mirror shutter” is a quotation.
- List the exclusions on the same document. A covering email does not survive a dispute six months later.
- State validity, payment milestones and the extra-work rate on the quotation itself.
- Keep a trade-wise BOQ behind it for the contractor to price against, so both views reconcile.
What it prevents
- A client approving a number they cannot check. Room-wise sub-totals let someone verify the parts they care about.
- “Appliances were never included.” The exclusions block removes the argument entirely.
- A revision that changes a rate quietly. With specifications in the line, a changed rate has to be explained.

Frequently asked questions
Should a quotation be room-wise or trade-wise?+
Room-wise for the client, trade-wise for the contractor. Room-wise lets you see what your kitchen costs and decide whether to spend less there. Trade-wise lets a contractor price efficiently and lets you compare three quotations line by line. Ask for both if the project is large.
What should always be excluded and stated?+
Loose furniture, mattresses, curtains and soft furnishings; appliances and air conditioners; society deposits, lift charges and municipal fees; structural work; and art and styling props shown in 3D views. If any of those is included, it should be a priced line rather than an assumption.
How long should a quotation stay valid?+
Thirty to forty-five days is normal. Beyond that, material prices move, particularly plywood, laminate and stone. A quotation with no validity date is either a placeholder or a problem waiting for a price increase.
Is a lump-sum quotation ever acceptable?+
For a small, well-defined package — one wardrobe, one bathroom — yes. For a full flat, no. A lump sum with no breakdown cannot be compared, cannot be varied fairly and gives you nothing to hold a contractor to when the specification quietly drops.
What does design fee usually cost?+
Rs 45 to 80 per sq ft for concept and basic drawings, Rs 90 to 160 for a full working drawing set with supervision, and Rs 180 to 400 for detailed luxury documentation. On a design-and-build contract it is often shown as a separate line, as it is in this format.
