Turnkey versus the alternatives
| Model | Who coordinates | Price certainty | Your time | Typical premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turnkey / design-build | The studio | High | Low | Baseline |
| Designer + separate contractor | You | Medium | High | Often higher once variations land |
| Labour contract + own material | You | Low | Very high | 5 – 12% cheaper, if nothing goes wrong |

Design and build under one accountable roof
When turnkey is genuinely worth it
You are not in the city
NRI and out-of-town owners. A fixed contract is your site visit.
You work full time
Site decisions happen at 11am on Tuesdays, not on weekends.
You want price certainty
A fixed BOQ beats an open-ended labour rate.
The scope is complex
Multiple trades in sequence is exactly what coordination is for.
Turnkey should mean one accountable party, not one unreadable number.

Frequently asked questions
What does turnkey interior design include?+
Design and drawings, 3D views, material procurement, civil work, carpentry, electrical and plumbing, false ceiling, painting, finishes, installation, snagging and handover — all under one contract, one price and one completion date.
Is turnkey more expensive?+
Usually 5–12% more than the cheapest labour-plus-material route, because you are buying coordination and risk transfer. It is often cheaper than a designer-plus-separate-contractor arrangement once variations and delays are counted.
Do I still get a cost breakdown?+
You should. Turnkey describes who is accountable, not how transparent the pricing is. If a studio will not provide a line-item BOQ with quantities, rates and named brands, treat that as a reason to walk away.
